Parroquia
de Cristo Resucitado Excursion to Albacete
The
parish of Cristo Resucitado on Wednesday 20th of January
had their first parish excursion - to Albacete. Leaving
at 8.30 and first arriving at the bodega of Don Florentine
outside Albacete where they had breakfast followed
by a tour of the vinery.
Two
fascinating points of interest were first to be told
that the rose bushes at the end of each row of vines
acted as an indicator of any problems with the vines!
Like canneries were used in the mines years ago to
warn of gas in the air!
The
second point of interest was that the oak for the
barrels was either from America, France or Spain and
after two years were returned to the manufacturers
for cleaning and use with inferior wines or made into
garden equipment. They varied in price from five hundred
euros to over one thousand five hundred euros!! The
interior was also prepared for low, medium and high
roasting! Containing 250 litres of wine in each barrel,
one could understand why really good wine is so expensive.
Lunch
was followed by a wine tasting and later the group
toured the city of Albacete and had a visit to a special
knife museum.
Everyone
so enjoyed the day that they were all eager to go
on the next excursion. The group was international
with many friendships being made and others endorsed.
Those attending were mainly Spanish with English,
German, Belgium, Irish and one Italian laughing and
enjoying the day together. An uplifting and delightful
event. Thanks go to Don Joaquin, Antonia for her translating
and Luis for the organization of the day.
Don Joaquin was given a ham by the director of the
bodega and he has offered it to the parish for a raffle,
tickets may be purchased after 11.00 mass at La Zenia.
Proceeds to go towards the cost of the new ecumenical
temple.
